A good Okinawa road trip aligns hotels, rental-car hours and the day’s main area. Northern Okinawa takes time and should not be forced into the same day as southern sights.

01

Before renting

Confirm driving documents, insurance, child seats and pickup and return rules before payment. Airport pickup queues can be long, so keep the first day flexible.

02

South, central and north

Use Naha and the south for city and cultural stops, the center for coast and shopping, and reserve a full day for the north. Check dates and cancellation rules for aquariums, parks and marine activities.

03

Driving and parking

Driving offers flexibility, but Naha traffic and parking cost matter. If you are uncomfortable driving on the left, compare buses, private cars and day tours. Add rest and parking time beyond the navigation estimate.

04

Food, stays and budget

Staying in the north reduces long return drives but offers fewer nearby restaurants. Include insurance, fuel, tolls, parking and one-way fees in the budget.

05

Weather and sea safety

Sea conditions change quickly. Follow operator decisions for snorkeling and boats, keep a land-based alternative during typhoon season, and store essential documents offline.
